If you’re anything like me, watching the best drum videos online is almost as fun as playing the actual drums. Here’s my shortlist of 5 videos I can’t stop rewatching, year after year.
From simple solos and clips from my favorite drummers, to interesting instructional videos that just make you feel good… take a look at these top picks below.
1. Sonny Emory’s Insane Bass Drum Control
Nobody on the planet has kick drum control like Sonny. If you’ve listened to his music, you know he has one of the tightest, most locked-in grooves of all time. That’s why it’s so fun to hear him play a more exploratory solo, and just shred the kit for a while. Watch the switch up at 1:25 to have your mind blown.
2. Crazy “Blushda” Fill With Mike Johnston
It’s a new one from Mike, but I’ve always been a fan of how he doesn’t just teach boring lessons. He’ll actually upload a super fun, exciting fill to learn as well. This fill is crazy, and the way he tunes his drums is immensely satisfying.
3. The Tony Royster Jr. Solo That Made Me Fall in Love With Drums
His fills are disgustingly good. His energy is contagious. And you just can’t look away when he plays. I love this video, because it’s one of the videos that hooked me on drums years ago when I was much younger. Plus, I love those mini toms he uses on the left-hand side of the kit.
4. Benny Greb Floating on the Kit
Benny Greb was introduced to me through a friend, and ever since I discovered who he was, I could never stop watching his videos. He is a master of “flams” around the kit, and he makes different time signatures or little switch ups feel like a 4/4 backbeat. This interesting song he’s playing to was so addicting to watch, and I still come back to it years later. It had to be in my list of the best drum videos.
